Country and Americana

I decided to give you a short break from watching all trays and watering cans! These are two key racks in country style - Americana and ... just country!
I am not very much in Americana style but like the deceptive simplicity of naive American art. Tried to make something remotely similar... Pict 346Pict 346a Pict 347

And a few pictires of my garden. We have a warm weather at last! For those of you who wants to know the names: geranium pyrenaicum; brunnera "Jack Frost"; viburnum "Mariesii" and omphalodes cappadocica. Last two pictures are of flowering hawthorn trees, they are amazing!

  6. Wow, love those trees, nice and tall too! I love the picture of your garden, it looks very cozy.

    That 'country' keyrack, is that a napkin or you painted over the napkin too? Looks very nice, very country :)

    1. Thank you very much Veena!
      About the key rack:
      - paint the blank white(or other light color);
      - glue "the cockerel", which was carefully cut out of napkin;
      - when dry glue the other napkin (the chintzy one with tiny flowers) on the top, covering all the surface;
      - using damp cotton bud carefully remove the second napkin from the cockerel so that it looks like it glued on the chintzy background;
      - paint the central part with very thin white paint imitating fading centre;
      - slightly darken the edges with patina to imitate "dirt of ages";
      - speckle all the rack to highlight the country feel.
      Done!
      If smt isn't clear just ask!

    2. Thank you for the details Galina.
      Thin white paint, is it painted on the center of the napkin?
      The patina, is it applied only on the edges of the rack or outline of the cockerel too?
      About the wood part, where you hang the keys, is that just painted/primed haphazardly and sanded or more process involved?

    3. Veena,
      "Thin white paint, is it painted on the center of the napkin?" - Yes!
      "The patina, is it applied only on the edges of the rack or outline of the cockerel too?" - Yes, I made kind of shading around the cockerel, but it was made by using acrylic paint (or patina, it doesn't matter).
      "About the wood part, where you hang the keys, is that just painted/primed haphazardly and sanded or more process involved?" - Yes, painting, sanding, patination, but all wood is different so the final result can differ from what you expected!
